Disaster management team, which is the most celebrated team of the Sri Sathya Sai Organisation, to serve the community at the crucial hour of any natural calamity. The Sri Sathya Sai Seva Organisation, Disaster Management Team, Tamil Nadu participated as “SAI Disaster Response Guard” in all the 3 days events and programs.

HADR – 2019 The Revenue and Disaster Management department, along with the Indian Navy and National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), Airforce, and various Government Authorities, jointly organized the Annual Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief Exercise 2019, in all coastal districts of Tamil Nadu (except Kanchipuram District), on the theme ‘Cyclone and Urban Flooding’ from 2nd August to 4th August.

Inauguration was at Chennai Kalaivanar Arangam, attended by the Tri-force (Navy – Airforce – Army) along with the officials from various departments of Tamil Nadu Government. The “SAI-Disaster Response Guard” (DRG) as a special invitee participated on all the scheduled days.

In the Seminar, Dr. Sathya Gopalan IAS, Commissioner Revenue and Administration, appreciated the earnest efforts of the Sri Sathya Sai Disaster Management Team who had trained The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF).  The NDRF team had carried the cycle ambulance concept for their module.

A table top discussion (TTD) with all the line department was conducted, in which a mock drill scenario was briefed by the SAI Disaster Management Team. In the next day’s Table top Discussion there was an active participation of all the team members.

An exhibition at Island ground, Chennai was organized, which had its stall arranged for SAI DRG.  In that Tri-force, TNSDMA, TN Police, Health, Fire & Rescue, Communication, and various other departments had their exhibits displayed. The Sai DM Team demonstrated a few improvised methods of rescue and other services. A Skill Demo was executed at Chennai Port which was done based on an invitation to the DM Team.

During the table top exercise there was a run-through of all the services of the SAI Disaster Management Team, right from Tsunami till now, which was well received by one and all.

Mock drill at 12 Costal Districts was scheduled from 8 am to 1.30 pm and the happenings were well captured by the Chennai Disaster Management Control Room.

With the available resources, the SAI DM Team joined, lead and witnessed in the Districts of Thiruvallur, Chennai, Cuddalore, Tanjavur, Thoothukudi.  In these districts the team was able to support the mock drills and share the rescue methods. With due credits to the District Presidents of Thoothukudi and Thanjavur who were the active participants making the drill a successful one.

On the final day’s event, Dr. Jagannathan IAS, Director, TN Disaster Management, summarized with the help of the pictures of mock drills, which were earlier carried out at 12 Costal Districts. Country Safety Heads and Disaster Management Heads of various countries got a clear picture of the Disaster Management Team in India, the well-trained team, which is all set to handle any natural disaster. There were delegates from Australia, Philippines, Malaysia and China and it also had a few other countries’ representatives.
