The Sri Sathya Sai Seva Organisation, Sikkim organized Balvikas Sports and Cultural Meet 2019 on the 20th of Oct at Khel Goan, Gangtok amid a huge contingent of Bal Vikas students, gurus, office- bearers and devotees who had come from all 6 districts of Sikkim. His Excellency, the Governor of Sikkim Shri Ganga Prasad graced the event as the Chief Guest who was accompanied by other officials from Raj Bhawan and other dignitaries and senior devotees of the Organisation.
The Governor arrived for the event and joined in with everyone to welcome Bhagawan’s Rath that was being ushered to the ground with a Bike Rally accompanied by recital of Veda Shlokas. The arrival of Bhagawan’s Rath was given a rousing welcome by all present.
This was followed with the lighting of lamp and offering of bouquet at the Lotus Feet of Bhagawan by tiny tots from Balvikas centers across the state. This was followed by hoisting of the National Flag by His Excellency the Governor along with the hoisting of the Prashanthi Flag and the Balvikas Flag by State President and District President (Ravangla). The National anthem followed the flag hoisting.
A group of 6 para gliders showered flower petals at the ground as they glided over the ground. Thereafter, the State President welcomed the Chief Guest, dignitaries and all the office- bearers, students, gurus and devotees who had come to witness the Sports and Cultural Meet 2019. This was followed by a welcome song presented by the youths of Gangtok& North District. Thereafter the youths took out a Torch Rally and paraded around the ground.
The event began with various cultural events presented by the students of Balvikas centers and Sathya Sai schools and youths from all the districts in form of songs and short plays. All the cultural events carried the message of the five cardinal Human Values as espoused by Bhagawan– Sathya, Dharma, Shanti, Prema and Ahimsa. One play also highlighted the message of Love and patriotism.
The Balvikas students’ contingent then presented an impressive march past wherein His Excellency the Governor and the State President received the Salute.
The State Education Coordinator administered the Oath to all the students reminding the participants that we are here to celebrate and help become the best of oneself and not to compete with one another.
The Governor in his address to the gathering expressed his happiness to be among the children and Sai devotees. He mentioned that it is heartening to say that following the path of Sri Sathya Sai Baba, organization has been serving the society with spirituality, peace and maintained communal harmony among each other. His Excellency said that Sri Satya Sai Seva Organization is leading towards enlightenment from the darkness of ignorance and praised the commendable work of the organization for their collective effort for engaging young children in spiritual, social and other activities. While blessing the children for their future endeavours, His Excellency Governor, Ganga Prasad urged the children to remain consistent in their effort to serve society for better tomorrow and nation building process. He called upon the Balvikas children to contribute towards the development of society, the State and nation at large.
His Excellency also emphasized on the importance of sports and yoga in everyone’s life and sports and cultural events will develop all round of developments like; body, mind and soul, which also build up communal harmony. His Excellency Governor opined that it is important to empower the young mind with knowledge with spirituality which will strengthen and developed the society at large.
His Excellency the Governor inaugurated Ambulance Seva initiated by Sri Sathya Sai Seva Organisation Sikkim. This is a first of its kind in the state and through this Ambulance Seva the Organisation intends to be able to serve the under privileged sections of the society by providing emergency ambulance services in lowest cost.
This was then followed by various track and ground events for the Balvikas students. The events was categorized under various age- groups and the events were 100 metres race, 200 metres race, 100X4 metres Relay race, re- capitulation race, Paada Namaskar, 3- legged race among many others. The students participated in the events with great enthusiasm and zeal. The office bearers and Gurus also showed keen interest in all the activities and participated in separate events held for the gurus and office bearers adding to the festivity of the event.
The results from all the events were tabulated and based on it, Gangtok& North District emerged as the district with the greatest number of wins followed by Singtam district on 2nd position followed by Rongli district on 3rd position.
The meet then culminated with offering of Aarti at the Lotus Feet of Bhagawan.
