SANATANI MANCH-19th January 2020 (Shakti Swarupini Day)-Odisha

“Sanatani Mancha” : a well known term among the Sai fraternity of Odisha.  This provides a platform to celebrate the glory of womanhood, of the great culture and tradition of Odisha. Its a part of Mahila Bibhaga, where each Mahila of the organization of the state  is a member. The objective of this  Mancha is to spread and promote  the spirit of Service, amity, Literature and Culture . It also provides a platform for the Mahilas to express their views and talents. It helps to revive and restore the bygone old culture and tradition which is likely to be extinct in due course to rapid urbanization. Keeping this in view,  Sanatani Manch  celebrates different Festivals  of Odisha, (Popular in different areas) in different parts of the state. Throughout the year, this Mancha provides ample opportunities for the members of Sai Family to celebrate their regional festival such as Raja, Nuakhai etc at their very own place with spiritual fervour coupled with the cultural and traditional practice. Thus, it becomes a medium of cultural exchange among the members of Sai Family of Odisha.

This year, on 19th January 2020 (Shakti Swarupini Day, declared by our beloved Bhagavan) and on the auspicious day of Makara Sankranti, mahilas of Shanatani Mancha  availed a golden opportunity to celebrate this occasion at Markandi, a village near the sea in southern  part of Odisha. Smt. Priyambada Pattnaik, State Spiritual Co., Smt. Bijaylaxmi Pattnaik, Editor, Sanatani Magazine, Dr.Puspamitra Mohanty attended this  programme. Deliberations were made on different topics like importance and rituals of Makar Sankranti, objectives of Sanatani Mancha and its role and responsibilities of  the Sai sisters in it, importance of Prashanti Seva, along details of ongoing activities under Mahila wing in state etc.

In this programme, more than six hundred Mahilas participated with great enthusiasm and joy. The villagers are very simple and much devoted to Bhagavan since long . Most of them belong to the fishing community. The festival started with Veda and Bhajan. The three days of celebration of Makar like Bhogi, Pongal, Kunuma had been observed, in the typical tradition. They worshipped the cow, a part of the celebration.

The Sai sisters sang the traditional song near the fire (Made of Cow dung). They clasped one another’s  hand and moved around the fire  singing the song. Everyone was jubilant and enjoyed the celebrations.  Actually it enhanced the bonding  between   them. Their love pervaded the whole atmosphere. The sisters who had gone to the other parts of the state became  enriched of this forgotten tradition  and enjoyed fully.

Three sisters of Ganjam District  were felicitated by Sanatani Manch for their exemplary Seva rendered to the Sri Sathya Sai Seva Organisation. One sister from the village Markndi was one among the three.  The function ended with offering  of Mangala Aarti to Bhagavan.

Nitya Sikshya Danam – an offering of Love-Odisha

Report in PDF: Nitya Sikshya Danam-Odisha

In the year 1998, in an International Conference on Educare, Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba gave the
Clarion call for Sikhya Danam in these words,
Do not wait for building, furniture, facilities – do Vidya Danam if you have to

The first Nitya Sikhya Danam centre in Bhubaneswar started the following Thursday in the Samithi premises (now Sai Janani) with 6 children from local slums. Within a month the number went up to 30 from grade I to V.
900 Children benefit from this activity & 83 Teachers extend selfless Service. With this as the inspiration, Sri Sathya Sai Seva Organisation,Odisha has started 31 Nitya Sikhya Danam Centres in 5 Sai Districts of the state. These centres are located in the villages and cater to children ages 6 to 12 years, most studying in the local government schools. A total of more than 900 children benefit from this programme and 83 teachers render their selfless service.
Objective
The objective of the Nitya Sikhya Danam (NSD) project is to inculcate Love and Human Values along
with academic achievement among the children and ensure Swami’s direction – “Education is for
Life not for mere Living.” The academic focus is to strengthen the basics in English, Mathematics and
Odia and lay a strong foundation in the formative years for children of slums and villages studying in
government schools.
Modality
Each NSD centre consists of 25 to 30 children and 2 to 3 teachers (1:10 teacher student ratio) and
functions for 2 hours daily either before school hours in the morning or after school hours in the
evening. Every day 30 minutes is devoted to development of mental and behavioural skills of children. The rest 90 minutes is focused on academic development through active reflective
engagement of children and active involvement of Gurus and Guru Maas. The classes are held in
local community areas of the village like community centre, cyclone shelter etc. The children are
taught the basics of languages and mathematics in a fun and interactive way. Academic activity is
the focus from Mondays to Saturdays. Sunday is a fun day for the children where the focus shifts to
physical activities, games, extracurricular activities and education in Human values through Bal Vikas
through the 5 teaching techniques of Silent sitting and Meditation, Group Singing, Story Telling and Group Activities.
Preliminary health screening and health check up has been started for all the centres. Regular
parent contact programme is also planned for all the centres. A Baseline diagnostic test has been
conducted in 31 rural SSNSD centres to assess the needs of the children and based on that the
curriculum and study modules are being developed to achieve holistic development of child. Selected teaching learning materials and play materials is provided to support the centres. The Sri Sathya Sai central trust provides the necessary financial support and the devotees extending their support by following “Ceiling on desires”, by saving money and using it for the good of the society. Some have also come forward to support in terms of teacher training, curriculum development and assessment. Curriculum and Training Capacity building of Guru and Guru Maa is an essential component and a prime focus area of the programme. The curriculum and modules are prepared at the state level by experts on child education with inputs from alumni of Sri Sathya Sai Institutions. Regular training and orientation is
conducted for the appointed teachers. Teaching Spoken English to the teachers through ‘Phone Your
Friend’ inititative is being planned by the alumni. Two coordinators visit to 5 to 6 centres daily for
follow up, feedback and support. Also every 5 centres are under the charge of one mentor. This ensures delivery of good quality education to the children.
Vision
It is our prayer to Bhagawan to offer 108 such centres in service of society by the centenary year of
His advent. We intend to maintain the high quality as expected by our Divine Master in each centre
and help thousands of little buds blossom into beautiful flowers spreading their fragrance to society.
